Transformers: Il Risveglio, film diretto da Steven Caple Jr., è ambientato negli anni '90 a New York, in particolare a Brooklyn, e in Perù. Il film introdurrà: i Maximal, discendenti degli Autobot; i Predacon, discendenti dei Decepticon, e i Terrorcons, gruppo di Decepticon in grado di trasformarsi in bestie mitologiche. A capo dei cattivi c'è il villain Scourge.
Ci saranno, però, anche volti familiari, come quello dell'amato Bumblebee e di Optimus Prime (ovviamente diverso da quello finora conosciuto) in compagnia di altri autobot, tra cui Mirage, che diventa una Porsche, Arcee, autobot femmina che si trasforma in una Ducati, e Nightbird, l'autobot ninja.
